Sharpening shears?

I've finally purchased a second shears. Now, how do I go about finding someone to sharpen my old shears? I didn't realize how dull they had become until I got the new ones and tried them out! I sure can't find anyplace locally that sharpens, and since I now have two pair, I can send one away, if necessary. I'm sure there is someone out there who can give me a recommendation. Cheryl

I'm guessing you're in the US. Have you tried looking for someone who sharpens saws? In the UK we have some specialist companies who sharpen saws, woodworking bits, etc. They tend to deal with timber yards, joinery and woodworking companies. Another possibility could be a company who deal with garden machinery.

Might be worth a trawl through yellow pages.

Ask at your local fabric store if you have one. Even the chain stores (aka TSWLTH) will usually have someone they can send scissors to for sharpening.

I've been happy with Gingher's service. $7.50 includes shipping, assuming you're in the US.

Portland cutlery(Oregon) is one of the best places. They will do mail order service. I don't believe they have a website so you will have to do a google search for their phone number. My local quilt store has a machine repairman who does a good job and charges $4.00 per pair. I tried the local hardware store which said they did sharpening but they butchered up the pair I gave them as a test so beware.
