SINGER 744 Bobbin Winding? Automatic? HOW?

Hi, My Grandad fixes sewing Machines for 'Tools for self reliance' charity. Normally he only takes certain types of Singer (most of you will probably know which ones) HOWEVER, he cannot give the 744 (approx

20 yrs old?) away that he accidentially aquired, because he cannot write instructions as to how to wind the bobbin:

HOW DO YOU WIND A BOBBIN ON A SINGER 744

if anyone has a manual they can easily email that would be great, but all that is really required is details of how to wind the bobbin.

there is NO EXTERNAL BOBBIN WINDER that he can see.

the BOBBINS have a little notch on the bottom of then, presumably for accepting some sort of drive. We expect that the bobbin is wound in the machine, but can't work out how.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Best Regards

Maybe it's one of the ones that wound the bobbin with it still in the machine instead of having to pull it out.

They have threading & bobbin winding directions for many, many vintage model sewing machines. The 744 is either a Touch & Sew, Stylist or FashionMate. If the 744 isn't listed, try a number close to it, it may be close enough to help with your machine.

Thread the machine, and take the end of the thread and wrap it around the screw that holds the foot. Two or three wraps should be enough. Now, open the slide plate over the bobbin and look for a lever that moves over the bobbin. Move it as far over the bobbin as it will go. Put the foot in the "up" position. Leave the slide plate open, and run the machine. The bobbin should start to fill - you will be able to see that through the clear bobbin.

When you have enough thread on the bobbin, close the slide plate and remove the end of the thread from the screw. It should be a short piece, having broken while winding the bobbin.
