Slightly OT: Fabric Spray Paint

Hi,

I've decide to paint on fleur-de-lis on a costume princess dress and was wondering if there's a suitable spray paint. I'm going to try to cut a full sheet of these stencils and just spray paint them on. Hand stenciling is not one of my better suits and I try it before and it was too tedious and painful. Is there a spray paint specifically for fabric? I got some acrylic paint in antique gold and it's not quite right. I would love any advice from someone more experienced. Thank you so much.

Nevermind this post. I just tried cutting out a single fleur-de-lis with my Exacto and it was a major pain. I'm gong to try making a stamp instead. :)

Will you be washing the finished dress? If not, you could use car paint. It's readily available and comes in a million colours. I've used it for painting straw hats but I don't know how it would hold up to washing.

I might wash at some point if the dress gets dirty enough, but it wouldn't be a regular thing. I would think that the car paint would hold, but I'm painting satin so I might go with acrylic paint. I'm going to sew first, paint later and see what happens. :) Thanks for the idea.

It holds up pretty well to washing - bit stiff, that's all. I haven't tried it for costumes but it's worked well for curtains.

Fleurs-de-lis are a staple of home decor. Try a hardware wallpaper aisle and you might find a ready-made stamp.

And you can find them at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, et al, in the stamping aisle. There are hundreds of stamps available now, and I know I've seen the fleurs-di-lis. Karen Maslowski in Cincinnati

fabric paint is available in craft stores and Walmart. OR use acrylic craft paint.
