Slightly OT -- More teaching!

My last attempt was a disaster, spoiled by the gall bladder event, but I am signing up to teach again next year. This will be the 10-11 YO as before, plus the possibility of 12--14 YO and some Family Learning sessions of kids and parents! Exciting! I'm also looking into the possibility of doing a 1 week summer school next August with gifted kids (dunno what their age range will be!(. Closer to the time, I might be asking for help with project ideas. I'm more or less sorted for the family classes - I thought I'd do seasonal themed bags and projects with them. Not sure about the Kent Youth and Children's University sessions yet...

The worst thing about this is writing lesson and course plans for people who have no idea about the meaning of half the words I use! They misapply the jargon (don't know the difference between aims and objectives, and don't know the first thing about linear and lateral thinking or visual and auditory learning, for example) and haven't a clue about the subject (wouldn't know a needle clamp from a rotary cutter, or a warp thread from an embroidery thread!). It's amazing what I can get away with! ;)

I missed my assessment session this year as well, so no doubt the boss will want to see me teaching this coming year instead. Nothing to worry about with that, then! What's one more in the audience! I just hope I get enough teaching sessions this coming year to pay for a holiday!

Good luck with it Kate. Is that holiday your aim or your objective?

My respect for teachers increases after every time I help at my daughter's school (first year of primary) with reading groups and French lessons. Just getting 25 excited little people to sit down is one thing, getting them quiet is an improvement but getting them to learn - well, that's amazing!
