Topstitching w/ Jeans stitch

May 19, 2006 2 Replies

I am trying to topstitch a medium weight denim with YLIs Jeans Stitch but the thread keeps getting tangled around the bobbin case and giving poor stitch quality. I am using a size 16 jeans needle, regular gutterman thread in the bobbin. The machine is a Janome 10000 and was recently cleaned and oiled. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Loreen

I've got the same machine. I use "Sewer's Aid" on the thread to help with the sewing. I squirt out 4 lines on the thread spool. So far no problems - and I sew some pretty heavy duffle canvas as well as dress denim. I believe I am also using a Jeans Topstitch Needle same as yours. I do tend to change it out for every job, maybe two per job.

Oh, I also use the same Jean's Stitch thread in the bobbin as well.

Adjust the top tension: sounds like it's too loose.
