Truth in sizes?

We accept that a pair of pants with a size 32 waist label may be 26 or 37 in reality but here's a new one. I wondered why my new green shirt didn't feel right. While primping this morning, I noticed that the right armhole was up high, nearly tight. The left armhole? much lower cut. Much, much. It sort of makes me feel like a car going down the road with a back door open. It is not worth the hassle to return the shirt to the store but I'm so glad I finally figured out what was wrong. Polly

that's got nothing to do with sizing. Not a thing.

That's just piss poor quality control, at every stage from the factory to the store to you. (It's really unlikely a pattern got made that way, but I supose it's possible.) Take it back. If it's really too much trouble to do that, call them and bitch. If it's too much trouble to do that, you can afford to shop in a better class of store. (And if it's from a store that doesn't exist to sell junk that can't be sold elsewhere, shame them, and name them.)

Awww, now. It's not that big a deal. I just bought the shirt and pants to wear grocery shopping - it's not like I was going to appear on Wrestling Live on Channel Five or somewhere. Grocery shopping today, Mr. Esther and I both saw that they must have been holding Ugly Day. Saw a young woman who couldn't have possibly combed her hair this week. She weighed about 300 pounds and was wearing Very low rise jeans and a too short t-shirt. I turned to another aisle so I wouldn't have to be exposed (!) to what happened if she needed something on a low shelf. Mercy. Polly

Well Polly, I know someone personally, my DIL, who wears her clothes painted on! Says she wears a 3X although she weighs 425. I brought her some FL t-shirts back this spring, size 5X, and they fit her like they should! Barbara, used to be in FL but back in SC

I guess there are people who never look in a mirror. I wear plus size clothes and a beast of a time finding things. I can't wear much in RTW because if my build. I need a 1 1/2 x in most tops, but they don't make that size. I need a 17WP in pants and skirts and they don't make that either. I would never be caught wearing a smaller size because I look in the mirror when I get dressed because I think there is nothing sloppier looking than clothes that are to tight. That's why I sew. DIL has finally admitted that she can not wear pants size 4X in a woven fabric that I got her. I'm sure it is a 4X knit she wears on Saturday when son & family come up for the day. When I have asked if she would like for me to make her a pair, I hear 15-20 minutes of how she knows how to sew by hand. I've never seen anything that she has made. Yes, I have given son an older Sears SM and he knows how to use it. I want to teach granddaughter how to make a pair of shorts and maybe mom will watch and make some for herself. Are their any other suggestions from anyone? Oh, once a year she & I go to Catherine's Shop for larger sizes and I buy her a couple pair of pants on sale for about $25 ea. ( I've never seen her wear them.) Then I don't have to take the time and aggravation of measuring & buying fabric and sewing for her. Barbara in SC

Bobbie, perhaps she's embarrassed by her weight. It's so sad to see people who are that overweight and don't try to do anything to improve their appearance. There was a time when I was 60 pounds heavier than I am now, because of medication. I hated how I looked. I knew the cause and felt huge. I made sure my clothes were attractive and well fitting. It made a big difference for me. Once I came of the meds and lost the weight,I felt better about myself. When I was younger and worked as a night nurse in hospitals I was aware of the fact that many nurses who worked at night were very overweight. I think it was because they could hide from people that way. Juno

Okay, gang. Time for a review of the Serenity prayer. "Help me to accept the things I cannot change". If someone you love is dangerously overweight, smokes or walks around with dried beans stuck up their nose, you cannot change them. Love 'em. Polly
