Wedding dress

The first sketch of the wedding gown I'm making for DD is on the alt.binaries.crafts.pictures newsgroup. (I'm no artist, except with a needle. :-)

I'll be posting additional pictures as the work progresses. Today, I'm making the second muslin.

Thanks! The second fitting went very well, so tomorrow I start cutting the duchess satin, re-embroidered lace, and organza (interlining), and get to work for real. While my DD is out of town this weekend, I'll make a good start on the petticoat. I love this! ;-)

I'm taking pictures, but not with a digital camera, so I'll have to await processing and then scan future pics.

Heh, maybe when you're done, I can pick your brain. I have my wedding dress to make too, but I have til October, so I'm putting it off for a bit. Already got fabric though...a nice, heavy silk satin. I like all the details you have in your D's dress. I want to incorporate red into my dress, but I can't decide how to do it yet. Have lots of ideas, not one that I'm particularly attached to. Can't wait to see more pics!!

Oh, do be careful, I don't have many brain cells to spare. ;-) Seriously, ask away, but I may not respond much until I get further along on this project.

She and I brainstormed together, she tried on several styles at local bridal shops (a very good idea, as her original dream dress didn't flatter her at all) and I sketched her ideas, so the design is hers, I'm the "coutourière". We found a fabulous white duchess satin, and a spectacular lace. I'm also going to make all her attendants' gowns, as well as my own outfit.

I was a little dismayed when she insisted on incorporating periwinkle _somewhere_ in her gown (her colors are periwinkle and purple), but she finally settled on having the underlayer of the petticoat in periwinkle taffeta, with lots of white tulle over, so about the only time it will show is when the bridegroom removes her garter.

I took some during our final muslin fitting, and today as I began to cut the fabric. I spent the balance of the day oiling and carefully cleaning my machines, and setting up a large work area I can keep spotless. I moved out of my usual sewing room, as my shih tzu gets _very_ upset with me if I stay downstairs all day sewing, so I'm setting up shop upstairs. Whew!
