The only thing I don't like about my Bernina 1130 is that it doesn't make keyhole type buttonoles; they're all made with tacking, stitching, tacking, and stitching rather than a continuous stitching in a modified oval. I miss my Montgomery Wards buttonholer (let a friend borrow, never saw again, many years ago). It would make both types of buttonhole.
I love everything about my Lily 555.

it's not a function of "electronic" vs whatever (old) type, but the actual design of the foot-pedal and electronics. the _slow_ startup is considered a feature by many. many older machines would "stick" at such low speeds so the pedal was not designed to provide them.
the average electronic drive can provide sufficient torque to make the low speeds practical. this does impact the ramp-up time and foot motion required so that you may "think" it is a slower machine. again, this is almost an individual machine/ design issue. speed ranges are nice, electronic or no. my electronic/air Singer foot control is snappy, yet gives good control (and torque) at low speeds. it is a single range control. ymmv, --Loren
Bernina 1130: if you move the needle position away from center (eg, for edgestitching), then switch to a different stitch (eg, zigzag), when you switch back to the first stitch it doesn't remember the needle position & you have to move it again. Very annoying.

Bernina 930 - I can't seem to adjut the pressure on the presser foot and the buttonholes are only so-so, when I want a really good button hole I break out my old Kenmore and put the old Singer buttonhole machine on it.
Yes, I agree. Janome 6500 has a better buttonhole than either Pfaff or Bernina.

I like my 180 just fine, but I had an older Bernia before that also had the front loading bobbin. So I got to practice. Before that I used a Featherweight that had a side loading bobbin. I don't think I've ever used a toploading bobbin!
What I don't like about my 180 (To finally answer the thread...) is the gizmo that cuts the thread for you. It is maladjusted or I have negative mechanical karma because about 1/3 of the time it also unthreads the needle! What a pain! So I never use this feature.
