hemmer foot question

Sep 08, 2006 4 Replies

I have tried a universal hemmer foot on my Toyota 2400 EC1 machine without success. Although the material feed is OK the stiching falls outside the hem!! A friend mentioned that on her sewing machine there is a needle position control. My machine doesn't have this feature. The only way I can think of to try to make the foot work is to use a small shim to move the foot towards the left. Any help welcomed.

You may need to widen your stitch.

shows how it is done.

Does your hem foot have an adjustment on it? Take a look at mine here:

The red bit is an adjuster: you turn it and it moves the hem foot relevant to the needle/presser foot bar.

If you have a look at the whole article on blind hemming, you can see how it works:

If you don't have an adjustable hemmer, use the stitch width adjustment on the machine so you take a wider 'bite' at the fabric.

Many thanks for all the suggestions but in the event I just did a normal hem as I realised that thickness of finished article would be too thick to go through the hemmer foot.
