How can I make a tulle seam less uncomfortable?

For Halloween this year, I am going to be the White Queen from the new Alice in Wonderland. I am making the dress (or as close to it as I can get, anyway) from a Simplicity pattern, and it's almost done, but I need some advice on an issue that has come up. The sleeves are long and made of tulle. After sewing up the sleeves, turning them right side out, and putting them on, the seam edges were very prickly and uncomfortable. A seamstress friend recommended folding the ends over and sewing them down so they lay flat, which has helped a little. But I still feel like there are little pins pricking me in various places on my arm, which is really uncomfortable.

Is there something I can do to cover up that seam? I don't have time to remake the sleeve with different seams, so I need to work with what I already have. Also, keep in mind that these sleeves are white tulle, so they're very see-through and so any tips that can be close to invisible would be great. This is also kind of an issue at the waistline because there is also a skirt with a satin layer and a tulle layer which also pricks at me. I'm hoping wearing a full slip under my dress will solve this problem, but if you have any suggestions for that as well, I would love it. Thanks!

The only thing to do with tulle used in this way is to use soft silk bridal tulle. Anything nylon is going to be stiff and scratchy.

Now that you have made this and run out of sewing time, you could try binding the edge of the sea with a narrow satin bias tape. It WILL show

- there is no way round that, I'm afraid.

There is a sheer soft bias tape that comes in a roll. I have used it for similar jobs, but can't remember the brand or name.

Could it be "Seams Great"?

I have some of that, and it's a kind of mesh, like a soft net. It might not stop the prickles, which is why I suggested satin.

coming out of lurkedome to suggest several layers of chiffon as a sam binding. How about making an inner sleeve out of chiffon and use it as a lining? You might still have to put a chiffon seam binding over the tulle seam but you'd still end up with something relatively sheer. If you can deal with having the seam covered, then the easiest thing is to do as Kate suggests and use some satin. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

How about wearing one of those body suits that match skin tone?
