I am new to sewing and I am trying to make a dress. I have sewn on the front band of the dress, and then it tells me to Layer seam, then turn to the outside and press. Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Trim ONE seam allowance to about 3/8" leaving the other one alone. This reduces bulk in the placket (and other seams as well. Often collar seams are layered).
