Scored a Singer 99K at yard sale

So, how much do ya hate me? A whole lot, or just a little? The machine head is EC, cabinet simple, somewhat battered. Must take it for a test drive. It's a wee sports model. Cea

$40--$50.00. Too bad it wasn't a featherweight!!!!! So, when are you coming to the beach?? You could plan a S E X (hope I typed that right...) trip, or a day of basking on the beach. It's almost cool enough to do that, in my weather book, without frying one's brains.

I don't need to hate you - I got mine for free! ;P My mum gave me it. And I take it to teach kids to sew (mine's a portable) and the kids like it. Fast, mind! Feisty little beast with a quick motor!

Don't hate you at all; I've got two, both free. Nice little machines but heavy as a boat anchor; don't really use mine at all because of the weight....

I'm surprised to hear that; IMHO FWs have very little room under the head :) I use mine FWs for piecing but never machine quilting as they're too small and lightweight, and move around on the table if the piece i'm working on requires some struggling with.

=46or some reason Featherweights are a lot cheaper (about 1/2 the price) through eBay then they are locally here - when they come up for sale they're typically $400-450, and that's in yucky shape....

Lots of people have inflated ideas as to what their machines are worth...I went to a garage sale a few weeks ago and saw a very used & abused Touch & Sew 778 they were asking "$150 Firm" for... =20

At a recent quilt show I went to there were three vintage machine vendors who were asking VERY inflated prices on their machines. But they were selling....so go figure :)

I use mine for piecing too, and I have quilted on the Elna Lotus (same sort of size), but it was a kitty sized quilt! They are both great little machines, and excellent for piecing and dressmaking, but not so good for quilting big stuff or making heavy coats and curtains.

I like @free to good Home - Buyer Collects!' myself. And that's for rehoming ones I have to let go as well as getting them to roost here...

A vintage machine, cleaned and oiled, in tip-top condition, with a case (especially one of the wooden ones), a full set of attachments, and a manual will command a much higher price than a neglected machine needing bits and pieces.

True...but not as much as these guys wanted, believe me :) I've seen as excellent used, cleaned & tuned machines, with all the bits and bobs and some even in gorgeous cases, in repair shops that were lots less.

Yes, in a shop, right? But when someone lugs it to a show, they sort of try for top dollar - near the end of the show, they're usually open to a much more reasonable price. So they don't have to lug it home or back to the shop again.
