trouble cutting out quilting blocks

Hi My name is lollie I am from canada, I just jioned this group cause I love sewing. Now I have a problem for you I am new to quilting. I havea problem keeping my ruler staight cutting out blocks any tips on what I can do... Lollie

Is the ruler slipping? there are various ways of stopping this. best to come and join us quilters on rec.crafts.textiles.quilting and ask there, as I have no experience of this. I have these rulers, and they don't slip:

Do you use a rotary cutter? Sometimes it can wander away from the edge of the ruler...

Lollie, I have the same problem.

I use a little Craftsman clamp (available at Sears) to hold one end of the ruller down. Basically, I get everything lined up and then clamp the ruller to the table. Then I hold the other end of the ruller and cut. No slipping!
