Anyone want FREE Mulberry wood in Las Vegas, NV?

If you would like some very large pieces of Mulberry, and live in or near the Las Vegas Nevada area, now is your oportunity!

I was driving home one day, and noticed a hefty tree being cut down. Like most turners, I slamned on my brakes, performed a u-turn in the middle of the road, and nearly caused a traffic accident (well, not really). After talking with the new owner of the property, she said I can take as much as I want, since she was throwing it away anyways. Cool! I grabbed some large limbs and crotch pieces already. The main trunk has been cut down, but is WAY too heavy for me to move. I ruined my chainsaw chain, after cutting about 1/4 way down a steel rod buried in the trunk before I knew what was going on. I don't know how long this rod goes through the trunk.

The main trunk is about 30" diameter, 5-6 feet long. If anyone wants this wood, then contact me at snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com, and I'll give you the address where it's at. I don't know how long it's going to be there, but I'm presuming that she won't want a big chunk of wood just sitting in her front yard for very long. I'll be more than willing to help move it, but my chainsaw is down for the count for a while. You'll need a gas-driven saw, as there is no electric power running through the house.

No takers, huh? Oh, well - I didn't want to see this tree go that way, but I couldn't do anything about it. At least I got a few good pieces from it.

The stump has since been thrown away.

Brent, I hope you told your local woodturning club there in LV about it. Not much some of us could do several hundred (couple of thousand?) miles away.

Nice thought, though.

Yea, I didn't know how many people here are from the Las Vegas area. I did mention it to a guy who belongs to a turning club, yes. Since mulberry grows good around here, I'm supposing that he and the rest of the group already have plenty of it.
