bandsaw motor belt tension question

Hi Folks,

I have a 14" Delta bandsaw (w/riser block) on the enclosed stand, and recently installed a new motor belt because the original one (14 yrs old?) broke.

Question is what is the optimal tension setting to minimize vibration contributions from the pulley/belt assembly?

I have aligned the pulleys so that they are in the same plane.

When using my finger to deflect the belt, I think that 1/4" deflection results in less vibration than 1/2" deflection, but this is pretty add hoc. BTW, there is about 16" between the edges of the 2 pulleys.

Any experiences/suggestions as the Duginske books don't seem to address this topic?

thanks George

No more than 1/2 is the normal recommendation. Sounds like you've got it close. Now tighten it if it slips or vibrates, or better, drop the dough on a link belt that never takes a set.
