Bandsaw Resharpening Video Clip Now Available!

Hello to the group,

Many of you are familiar with my Bandsaw Resharpening Protocol. It is in use by woodturners all over the world to resharpen their bandsaw blades and is a great way to squeeze some more life out of a dull band.

I have been working on a way to add short video clips to my website that would allow me to show some of my protocols in action. Using Adobe Creative Suite 3 - Web Premium, we are now able to add selected video segments to articles in our free woodturning educational library.

The first video we have added is a short 1:12 video showing my bandsaw resharpening protocol. If you have been wondering what the protocol looks like, point your browser to the following URL:

The video clip is about 2/3 of the way down, under the printed instructions for the protocol. If you watch the video, please let me know if you have any problems with it... If you do, please email me, or post on the group what browser you used and what happened. It would be nice to know as well, if you are on a dial-up (speed) or broadband connection. We have optimised the clip for all of the major browsers, but you never know... If this test works, out, we will be adding lots of video clips to the articles in our main library, as well as the new "Tips Library" that we are now building. Thanks for your help and best wishes to you and yours!

P.S. While you're there, take a look at the 21 articles in the library, covering a wide range of woodturning topics.

Steve, very useful short video.

If you sharpen all the teeth facing one direction before sharpening any of the teeth facing the next direction, your hand will do a better job of repeating the angle. It does mean making three passes over the blade ... but each advance covers much more territory and you end up with a more consistently sharpened blade. This should translate into a straighter cut.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Bill I did it both ways, didn't seem to make any difference, biggest problem I find with the saw blades is that the set gets out of them, I use the BS not a lot for any sawing, just rough cuts and I just steer as needed. I think if you want a blade to track well, you shouldn't use it for anything else IMO.

Have fun and take care Leo Van Der Loo

Hello Bill,

Thanks for your posting... I've gotten so used to moving my wrist to the three required angles, that it's a very natural procedure for me. I've not tried your method but on the surface, it sounds like it will take quite a bit longer. Have you timed your method to see how long it takes? Take care and all the best to you and yours!
