Buried in Nova Scotia

Winter has hit a good one here. Yesterday we got about a meter (call it a yard) of snow in one day. My green wood is under lots of stuff. At least I assume it is under some of those piles. I had to go from the back door to shovel out the front door last night and was wading through stuff up to my waste. A state of emergency has been declared for the province and for neighboring PEI so we are not supposed to be on the roads. Sounds like good turning time but first I have to shovel a path to the garage, not to mention digging out the van and the car. on the other hand, maybe I will pour a hot coffee and prepare Sunday's sermon and dream of all that dry wood in the garage.

It got up to 65 today in Chapel Hill and thereabouts. I came home to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and it was still 55ish. I was outside without a coat for the first time in ages.

I still have snow on the north side of the house, and in various cold sinks, but about 80% of my yard has reverted to muddy, ripped-up turf.

(My yard is going to look terrible come spring.)

Here in South Central Pa it's 46 degrees, feels like a heat wave :>) Although it is windy enough to blow all of your snow away. 30 to 40 MPH On the spring side, I took my boat in for a tune up, The ice is melting. BG Darrell, don't shovel to much for to long. Jim

James et al. This is Saturday, the storm was Thursday. We are still waiting for the plow to come clear us. I have shoveled a third of the way to the road this morning (path only) not knowing how long before he comes to plow. The main roads are clear but some of the province is expecting another

20 cm of snow. We are only supposed to get about 2". YOu can see some pics at

I will take it off the web site in about a week or so. Enjoy your springtime.

Walter A couple of weeks ago I had to drive to Shelburne about 4 hours from me to preach at a friend's induction service. I had with me a friend from Alabama who now lives in Truro. It brings up the question: why do folks from Alabama make little hissing noises when the wheels swerve a bit or there is a white out because of blowing snow? And why do they get excited when passing a snow plow? Seems like normal weather to me. :-)

I figure any pass that lets you keep on driving is a good one. :-) Sort of like any catch that leaves all your fingers and the wood misses you when it flies off can not be a bad one. :-)

Sounds like you need to move to " 's " Country in the West. Vancouver Island has lots of trees, little snow and very few plows!

I was pulling your leg. I born and raised in New York City and I am familiar with snow. We are retired and now live in Alabama. I lived in Charleston, SC for a number of years, they would close the schools and offices if they have a half inch of snow.

Walter I know what you mean. I have seen cities close down when I thought the storm had missed us.

That's because they only have two snow plows on the coast, and neither one of them has a truck to push it. :)

Though I guess I don't have room to talk about Charleston. Here in the mountains of Virginia, they closed school recently on nothing more than a bad forecast, and it never ended up snowing at all. Of course, they figured since it was Thursday, it was going to snow.
