Changing to a Variable frequency drive

1. use a 2 HP motor, 1750 RPM
2. buy the motor surplus, get it locally. you will save a lot - you should be able to get an excellent condition motor for or less
3. get a refurb VFD - I use a Delta on my metal lathe (no, not that delta, another company called Delta that makes VFDs) - it cost me 0 from a distributor - so doing it my way your total cost woudl be around 0 to 0. You might luck into a used VFD via e-bay or a distributor or a swap meet, I've done that before also.
4. don't buy a kit, you will pay extra for someone figureing this out for you
5. I did this with my metal lathe (though it already had a 3 ph motor), see above for tips
6. READ THE MANUAL that comes with the VFD and understand it
7. this is the best way to achieve variable speed
8. if you want to do one stop shopping, you will pay more. to buy just a VFD, I would go to bob moffatt at thompson industrial. You could also check with Bill Rubenstein who friequents this group. I have a small VFD, I believe it's 1/2 or 3/4 HP that I coudl sell you, but you probably want a
