Combining woods in a goblet

I am thinking that a cherry base underneath a maple top would look mighty fine. If anyone has done something similar, I'd appreciate tips on turning technique, joining techniques, glue types and finishes.

Most especially, I want to know if CA is appropriate for the drinking portion. I am about half convinced that a band of gold leaf at the joint might be a good idea and I already have a small piece with gold leaf applied to a slightly countersunk band that finished off glass-smooth with some CA.

As always, no sense re-inventing the wheel. A website is worth 1,000 words.

BTW, the cheap aluminum "gold leaf" sold at Michaels Crafts wrinkles under CA. It's actually a pretty nice effect. YMMV
