I have gotten a copy attachment for a lathe from sears and my lathe is from Canadian Tire. The cutter on the copy attachment is about 1/2 inche about the center of the drive spur. My question is this. Will it still work or does the cutter have to be at the same hieght as the drive spur? The instructions don't say what the alignment is in relation to each other. Any help is accepted with thanks.

No, it won't work. Think about what would happen if you were turning a thin spindle -- less than 1" diameter. It wouldn't be able to cut it at all.
