Finish for a turned bar sink

Hi Guys,

I have a client who wants me to turn a bar sink out of African Mahogany.

The building of the blank and turning are no brainers for me.

My question is what to use for a finish. This will be a low frequency use item. I was thinking epoxy or some other resin finish.

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks in advance.

If anyone is interested in my new website I would appreciate feedback on that as well.

I have no experience with this, but from what I read, I would think epoxy would be the best choice.

"Barry N. Turner" WROTE: (CLIP) I would think epoxy would be the best choice. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Barry, I'll see your epoxy, and raise you one. How about a layer of fiberglass and resin? That would reenforce the wood, and provide complete isolation from any water in the sink.

Your best bet is epoxy or epoxy over fiberglass cloth depending on the amount of service and how heavy the wash items are. For a bar sink I'd probably opt for a thick layer of epoxy only. Dan

I actually made a sink earlier this year. I had people on this group tell me I was foolish to do it etc but it worked out nice and looks and works great. I guess it is too early to know if it is will rot out or not. Looking at your web site, I would say that you are right that you won't have any issues on how to turn it.

I used a marine epoxy

If I remember right, I used clear coat

Sounds like the voice of experience speaking.......remember, I said I had none! Your suggestion sounds much better than mine.
