For those of you who got Jim Marstall's message:
I stopped by also. The Oak may be the gopherwood he was talking about. I'm not sure it's oak. It has a thick creamy bark, yellow sapwood and heartwood that looks much like paulownia. The sapwood wood is very soft, but the heartwood is fairly hard. The leaves are very large and heartshaped, like basswood. Given that gopherwood is in the extreme SE and endangered, it is possible that it is Kentucky yellow wood, which is sometimes called gopher wood. It has an odor, but not the piss-like odor of oak even when freshly cut - I took a chainsaw. The pine-like wood is what's called cedar locally and the pieces are about 1' in diameter. The cherry looks like choke cherry. I got a 1/2 pick-up load and barely dented the pile.
If you can get there tonight do it. It's off Quincy BTW not of Graham as some of the directions suggest. I hope that helps.
