Got some more vacuum pumps, 1/3 hp, dual wobble piston

ok, I've got more of these pumps. They are used, not newly rebuilt like the last ones. I bought ten of them, all are tested and draw between 22 and 27 inches of vac - that difference is not significant for our use because it's what the pump maxes out at with no flow. It may be an indication of wear, but I don't think it really correlates with anything. These are Thomas brand 1/3 hp wobble piston pumps.

There are two categories - "came in clean" and "came in dirty" - they seem to have come out of different equipment because the mounting hardware is different. I cleaned up the dirty ones, gave them a coat of laquer to make them pretty, and they look fine (you can see some rust on some, some corrosion on some, but it's OK). I actually prefer the dirty ones, because the "dirty" ones have a pressure relief valve so you can also use them for a pressure pump.

Because these are used, they all come with rubber mounting feet of one kind or another - this is good because it will reduce noise. Most also have some fittings.

I also have a couple of exhaust filter/mufflers, and a couple of intake "tanks" that will reduce pulsations in the vacuum.

Price - pump only $75 plus shipping of $20. pump with either of above - add $3, with both of above, add $6, no change to postage.

I also ran across a deal on laser pointers and I picked up half a dozen - if you want one with the pump, add $5 (they are plastic, made in china, and include batteries, and work). If you want one without a pump, $10 (including postage).

I've given priority to the folks on my Wait list for pumps, but I think there will be a few left for the rest of the group.

I bought one of Bill's pumps at the Pasadena symposium. They are a good deal. I just got all the fittings setup yesterday finally. The pump sucks (pun intended) and it pulls 28 inches max. So I highly recommend one of these pumps....mine works great - thanks Bill !!

Also consider buying a couple of his cheapie faceplates - since they will become dedicated faceplates.

If you are a novice to vacuum, make sure to read Bill's extensive article on vacuum pumps and setup. It pretty much covers the spectrum and was a great reference for initial setup.

For exhaust muffling I found the dual wobble piston pump noise wasn't too bad. However I muffled it with a 5 foot clear plastic 3/4" tube through which I pulled a 3/8" fuzzy cotton rope. It's pretty quiet.

Now I can start cutting the tenons (feet) off the natural edge oak bowls that I'm making from that neighbor's oak tree.
