Helmet type air supply

Hi Group: I've looked into a dust collector system, and I just dont have the room.

What can you tell me about the dust mask systems with air filtration? Do they come as well with a safety shield?

I have a small beard and my present dust mask, just doesnt fit tight enough.

Thanks for all the ideas. Joe

I have an Airmate 20, it offers full face/forehead protection as well as filtered airflow. The headpiece shoud easily accomodate a small beard.

The air helmet systems are based on filtered air being blown into the head unit, creating a positive pressure to keep out the ambient dust. It isn't a tight seal so a beard isn't a problem. The airmate that I have has a tyvek chin cover, hard hat, and a faceshield. Works quite well. Although hard on the pocketbook, it's not as hard as a hunk of oak on the kisser...

I have the 3M AS200 Airstream with the battery on the waist and the fan behind the head. I love it and find I use it more and more for non-turning applications. Strongly recommended.

Hi Joe,

I have been using my 3M Airstream for several years now and would not consider working in my shop and turning without it.

The faceshield has saved me several times from pieces flung at me off of the lathe.

The filters in the system help protect both my lungs and my eyes from all the sanding dust I create.

With the Tyvek chin cover, I suspect your beard would not be an issue, but suggest you talk with the folks at Airware America - 800-328-1792.

I've used the Airstream for 13 years and had a beard the whole time. It's not a problem.
