this is an interesting thing and it is all wood

i am not sure how i would turn this cut 12 individual squares then mount on the lathe turn into matching circles drill afterward


or



turn a cylinder drill it then slice it up



or



turn a cylinder chuck it up then part off each slice



i think method 2 would be best



the lettering is another story and attaching the spindle inside is also an interesting one



maybe affix a screw to one end and glue it and screw it to attach them in the middle so it is not visible

this thing is called a jefferson disk invented and used by thomas jefferson for securing messages

the sender and recipient required the device

actually i wonder if he invented it or just his version of one he had already seen in use and recreated from memory
