Kel McNaughton center saving system

I was looking at the Kel Mcnaughton stuff at woodcraft the other day but when I look them up on the web there does not seem to be an active web page for them. Do they still exist? The Center saving system is expensive enough to make you wonder if you should buy it if the company doesn't exist

Kelton is a major woodturning tool manufacturer who are as active, if not more active, than they ever have been in providing the tools they have already introduced and developing new tools. Much of their line was recently picked up by Lee Valley, Craft Supplies is expanding on what was already a large selection of their offerings, Woodcraft has long been a major supplier of their tools and remains so, and a host of smaller providers (such as The Wood Tradesmand) carry a broad range of their products. They are probably stronger on the woodturning scene than they have ever been.

While I wish they would update their website, it is worth remembering that for many smaller woodturning companies, websites are more of a distraction and drain on their resources than an enhancement. Kel likes to develop and manufacture tools, but I suspect he doesn't care to write about them much at all. Different talents for different folks. Sure it would be nice if he would then hire someone to keep his website up to date and otherwise managed, but keep in mind that then becomes an increase in his overhead, and increase that would be reflected in the price of his tools. While I would like to see an expanded and more current website, I think Kel, has his priorities right.

Regardless, I'd sure hate to see any rumors get started about their existance based on their web presence. They are in fine shape and I know there are some really significant new tools coming along that will further expand on the many excellent tools now available through some of the most established and respected woodworking dealers.

I decided to give the center saver a try.

I used it this afternoon on a large chunk of green cottonwood. Half way through I discovered that my tool rest was slipping so I need to tighten it and then the green cottonwood tended to shread instead of cut. I'll have to pick out a harder wood for my next try after tightening the tool rest.

One problem I discovered was that I had the cutter too low so I wasn't cutting the center out.

The web page came up. I also discovered that I had the cutter > I was looking at the Kel Mcnaughton stuff at woodcraft the other day
