Musing about being 'pic-less in Florida' (long again)

I am not handsome, my shop is a messy catastrophe, my art/craft is mundane and I don't sell much. I do not own a digital camera. I know that these aren't really the reasons why I don't post pics to forums or to a personal website. Many of us do put up pics and I realize that without them the WWW forums & sites would be arid indeed. From time to time, I've been asked to post pics. I never do. Why? Am I an excessively private person or am I ashamed that my postings exceed my turnings? Whatever the reasons that those of us who prefer the anonymity of 'no pics' it is our choice. Two axioms from my teaching days come to mind:

"Those who can, do--those who can't, teach." and "When students start asking questions, they are beginning to understand what I am talking about." We of the 'pic-less persuasion' prefer the latter, and believe that we also serve.

All this is just to sincerely acknowledge with much appreciation all of you who put pictures on forums and personal sites. However, I do believe that although it may often take a thousand words to equal one picture, that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes a long narrative, RCW style, is the better teaching (and entertainment) tool. Courteous disagreement is always welcome. Arch

OK, so this boring, wordy and OT musing is the exception that proves the rule.

It was my pleasure to meet Arch a few months ago at a symposium in Florida. He is a real gentleman when he is sober.

Some people become visual artists because they are not good with words. Some people give wings to thoughts with the words they use. Whenever I see a post with Arch's name on it, I always read it. I know it will be worthwhile.

Arch, I've got a little website on line now. The address is

Hi,

I, too, like Clay, met Arch for the first time at the Central Florida Woodturning Symposium in January. I have to disagree with Arch, also for the first time. He indeed is a handsome man! I just wish all of you would use a little larger print, as my eyes are not as good as they used to be.

I'm with you, Arch, I don't post any pictures either.

Phil, My image must have been pretty blurred. If we could distill all the Texas corn that Clay dispensed during his demos we would never be sober. Oh well, his proven stature as a leader in our art/caft plus his pleasant and competent presentations are an enjoyable way for us to learn from a master. I have even bought a cabinet scraper! Any club will do well to host a Clay Foster demo. Arch
