Need koa blank

A friend has asked me to turn a vessel out of koa for her. Does anyone have a koa blank about 4 X 4 X 6 (or larger) that they would be willing to sell me?

Thanks, Joe Donohue

Hi Joe,

I went wood hunting on Maui a couple weeks ago. I met a native wood dealer over there by the name of Sam Piburn. He can probably help you out. His website is

Aloha Joe, I have some Koa available. I also have Milo, and Kou, which were actually the more popular woods with native Hawaiians for bowl making. I also have Kiawe a Hawaiian Mesquite. Where do you live? How soon you need it? I usually ship via Media Mail to help save in shipping cost. I am also willing to trade blanks, what do you have? I really like Osage Orange, Walnut, or anything else with a decent grain and color. I have traded blanks with several woodturners from this group who have come to visit Maui, and it has always been an honor to meet in person. I haven't visited RCW in YEARS, surprising to see a Koa request on my first visit in a while.

Aloha a hui hou.

Good to see you back spy, I've often wondered where you went. I think of you whenever I read a thread of someone wishing their lathe had a larger swing capacity.
