Nova DVR XP question

Will placing a magnetic base work lamp on the headstock have any effect on the DVR motor or computer?

Thanks,

I have the original DVR, not the XP, but I think they're pretty similar.

I've had a magnetic metal dish on the top of my headstock since I bought the lathe and have had no problems. I've not heard of any problems from others either.

I've been told (here) that unless it's stronger than the magnets in the motor, it's no problem.. I've had an ashtray with a 3/4" rare earth magnet epoxied to it sitting on the top of the headstock for almost a year and it doesn't seem to bother the computer, which was my original concern..

As to lighting, I've tried just about everything and the best for me so far is a cheap gooseneck on the t-bar that holds my DC nozzle near the lathe.. Seems that it's always in a pretty good position, since it follows the DC around.. Hmmm.. t-bar doesn't describe it, I guess... It's an old cut-off roller stand with the roller replaced by a 2x4, with a 4" DC clamp on one side and holes in the top for small stuff that I use a lot but don't fit on the chisel rack.. The lamp ($12 at wally-world) comes with a base and mounts in the base with a large "pin".. A simple hole in the 2x4 for the pin and it's very stable and adjusts well.. YMWV

Thanks for the response.

I just roughed out a natural edge bowl and I really like the lathe. The long side was about 10 inches and really out of balance. The Nova handled it as well as the old Jet 1642 would have. The swivle head is a big improvement and I like the control panel. Can't believe how smooth the machine is.

Thanks again
