Must be a different one than I've been looking at... it's over $2,000 and looks like a big-assed drill... no belts and the spindle is part of the motor..

Mac's just yanking my chain. Obviously the essentials of turning do not require all the bells, whistles and foolishness with which we can indulge ourselves. If you search for a useable tool your range of options is huge, but if you look for a bragger, it's gotta be the biggest, most expensive, or perhaps most innovative. Spins the wood, of course, but you still have to cut it, which requires imagination and ability.

Or ... how's the surface off that CNC-er Art? Got the thing sanding itself yet?

My first exposure to one was when Mark Kauder from Alabama, a regular poster on the Turning section of WoodCentral bought one. He wrote a pretty comprehensive review of it. It was scooped up for an article in the Articles section (I've done the bulk of the HTML conversion of the articles) on WoodCentral, and is worth a read.
