Nova DVR 3000

A student I am teaching wood turning to has asked me If I could find out if this is a good lathe .Well I really know little about it except for a add in a magazine so any pros or cons in regards to this machine would be appreciated. Also we are in Ontario Canada and it would have to come from and be serviced by a company in British Columbia. As usual thanks for the help and safe turning

It is a great lathe. Its not a Vicmark or Oneway but at half the money well worth it.

The Nova DVR 3000 is an excellent lathe. I've had one for over a year now and am very pleased with the machine. I feel it is the best machine available in its price range. You can do a search of the archives of this newsgroup and get quite a bit of information about the NOva DVR. Go to to access the Google web site. Select Power search or something like that, then enter NOVA DVR 3000 for the search word and rec.crafts.woodturning as the forum. You should get a lot of posts.

The only thing I recall is that there were posts about the motor shaft breaking with a certain motor combination. You have a selection of motors for the 3000. You might want to do a Google search for this or just ask the people at KMS - although I think I would get some info before asking.

Note that the saving in PST will probably pay for the shipping to Ontario.

The motor is built around the lathe shaft and there is no breakage problem on the Nova 3000 DVR. The shafts on the motors for the Nova 3000 lathes (original model) sometimes broke due to the side load on the shaft and the apparently brittle nature of the steel on the motor shaft.

Derek, You are absolutely correct, for some reason I missed the "DVR" in the subject line and just saw the 3000. My apologies, Billh

contact Teknatool snipped-for-privacy@teknatool.com and ask them who the local agent is in your area.

The lathe is very well though of here in New Zealand, I don't have one but our club has recently purchased one and several of our members own them.
