WTB - Nova 3000 lathe

Ofcourse someone will probably correct me which is fine but except for used I think the only place you will find a Nova 3000 is kms out of canada. When I was looking I could not find them new in the US and most of the US sellers only now sell the DVR.

As a result I got the DVR and have no regrets except for the slight pain in my wallet.

No, Woodcraft no longer carries it. Only the DVR. Some stores may have some left, but its no longer available for order.

Wrong. The store here that just opened has them and says they will still have them in the time to come. They were also in the Jan 2004 catalog. I'm picking up a new catalog today. If they're not still in there I will appologise.

I just got an email reply from two vendors.

KMS says they are out of stock and expecting a shipment in 3 weeks.

Woodcraft says they do not carry the regular Nova 3000 and that a new model is coming out in a few months with 1 1/2 HP and 3/4 inch shaft.

========================================== That sounds strange to me. The 3/4 in. shaft with 1 1/2 HP? It seems that would be a down grade from the standard 3K. The 3/4 in shaft will not br strong enough for large turnings that would be max out the size of a 3K. I think that combination would result in bent spindles. Does anyone else see a problem with this?

Ken.....He said "shaft" not "spindle"........Remember all the motor "shafts" breaking.......:-)

The only logical guess is 3/4 in. motor shaft, as opposed to 5/8 motor shaft. Nothing to do with lathe spindle, I'm betting.

Personally I think the motor shaft size for the Nova 3000 has never been a problem for Nova, being as they only sold the lathes and the dealers supplied the motor packages. Anyone, at any time in the past, or present could purchase a 3/4" shaft motor, as long as they can acquire a matching step pulley.

You are confusing the Corporate Woodcraft with the Woodcraft stores. Corporate provides catalogs, promotional stuff, etc. The individual stores are independently owned and operated. They can stock and order anything they want in addition to what is in the Corporate catalog. I was at the Latham, NY store yesterday. They expect to continue to stock the Nova 3K until it is discontinued by the manufacturer. Since that store has the same owner as the Rochester, NY store, I would expect that to be true in Rochester also. I suspect it might be true at most of the Woodcraft stores.

The Tennessee Association of Woodturners has a Nova 3000 for sale for $900.00 It has a brand new Baldor 1.5 HP DC motor with variable speed controller and bed extension.
