Powermatic 3520A and 4224 Lathes in the UK

Jun 19, 2004 1 Replies

Hi All,

In the latest Axminster catalogue there are two new lathes which would appear to be copies of Powermatics 3520A and 4224 models. The larger model actually has the 4224 number and Powermatic lettering on the headstock.

Can anyone offer their views about the good and bad points of the two Powermatic lathes.

Regards....Mike

About the only thing I can say with confidence about the 3520 is that I want one. I saw one demo'd by an experienced turner at a local shop open house and thought it to be a quality piece of equipment at a reasonable price. One aspect I particularly like is the ability to slide the headstock to the other end of the lathe for off-bed turning.
