Piano wire, multi-xis turning, gold leafing, veneer AND spray paint - plus a dead grape vine branch. Here's how they come together.

Fun and relatively easy to do - and fun to play with when you're done. charlie b

That's cool, Charlie. Your usual out-of-the-box approach:)

Not exactly. When I intentionally TRY to play Outside The Box, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. With these pieces it was another of those Zen Moments / I The Zone things, with me along for the ride - one of the participants in a process that worked "just so". When something needed to happen - it did - no need to ponder and plan - just go along and see what happens.

Now I'm thinking a turned Cat Tail rather than a grape vine branch might be something to try, maybe on a simple dome base rather than a slightly more complicated turned beads and coves base. I think I have some 3/4" ribbon mahogany that might make for an interesting dragon fly body. And a friend with a S**T load of veneers has offered to let me go through his stash of The Really Good Stuff. If any of that happens - and it works - I'll post a pic or two.

ps: did you start playing with your skew yet? If so, how's it going?

Charlie, Really cool idea on the dragonflies. Any kind of bees wing, or blister would work for wings. Thought of Bangasi Spell? pod for cattail? Dan
