Question posting pictures

My question is why can't pictures be posted in this news group? I would think if you didn't want to look at them, don't open the post. I went to a.b.p.w to look for some turning pictures. I opened one of a chess board hanging on the wall along with the playing pieces. There was one post advising the poster not to make the pictures so big as a dial up takes along time to down load. Simple and polite. Then there were about 6 posts dumping on this guy about picture size, like sharks after bait. Nothing about the project he built. Ok lets move on to another. A quilting rack, since my wife makes quilts. There are the replys about him mounting it to his sofa. ( the quilt rack was sitting on the sofa for the picture). The post I liked was the comment about it looking like the towel rack he had in the bathroom. Again nothing about the workmanship or how it looked. People post pictures because they are proud of what they have done and want to show it off. If they are asking for an honest evaluation of the work that would be different. Well I came back home to this group. Most of the time people here are polite and respectful of one anothers feelings. The other thing is pictures here would be about turning. Yes I go up to WOW and check the posts there. Well sorry about the rant, it must have hit a nerve with me. I guess I should go back to pulling weeds, makes the wife happy when I work in the yard even if it is every 6 months or so.

Well...there's nothing to stop anybody from posting a picture...but...it's is a convention that pics only get posted to binary news groups. And since there are so many alternatives...like WOW, Woodcentral, your own web page (most IPS's offer web space as part of the package), I don't see it as a big problem. Just my opinion.

I have to agree about the sharks swimming around, I also think that if you post in rec.woodworking you better have very thick scin for the most part. However there ARE also some very NICE peeps in there too. I would have to say that this news gropup is the most understanding of mistakes.
