If you can not get to it for a few months, you might want to find someone else to give it to. As it will get very brittle as it dries and will not be much good. Also, check the ends of the logs for wind shakes - it may not be worth the time as it will just crack and keep on going - BP cracks and runs real bad - so take your chances with it - it does turn beautiully when wet and makes nice bowls - very little grain, but hard and pretty stable.

I'm at the other end of your timeframe. I picked up two logs of BP a couple months ago (saved them from the chipper). They had been frishly cut. The sealer went on right away. I started turning it two days ago. Cuts wonderfully, with a surface that feels like I used my "1500 grit gouge" on it. The first piece was still slinging some water, but it's other half, after sitting about 12 hours, only had a very wet surface..
I turned them thick, I'll probably wait a couple weeks then true up the warp and finish turn them.
