Spindle drilling of Reacord Lathes.

Dec 10, 2003 1 Replies

I posted a week or so ago about thru drilling the headstock of a Reacord lathe. I did take the advice of the response I got here, I contacted Record directly. Why didn't I think of that?

Record told me to go ahead and do it. No problem as long as it is drilled straight. I drilled it out to 5/16ths in by using a 1/4 bit first long enough to go all the way thru '8 inches', then the 5/16ths bit. I then tapped the back end for a screw to hold the small cover plate over the rear bearing. Everything works well, is smooth and now a hole for a knock out rod or draw bolt.

Maybe this will help someone else. Jim Woodring Space Coast Woodturners
