Survey - Club Lathes

Hi, My club, The Long Island Woodturners Association, is considering getting a new club lathe. As part of the decision process, it was suggested to see what other clubs are using. Please answer the following questions:

Northwest Woodturners

Oneway 1224

All positive - many pros turn on large Oneways and the small one performs, adjusts and has the same operating feel as the big ones. A few have expressed their pleasure and comfort upon learning they'll be demo-ing on a Oneway.

I've only turned on it once but really liked it. Excellent quality and should last as long as the club does. I think the members are very proud of it and take excellent care for it's security between meetings, cleaning it up afterwards, etc.

________

Cascade Woodturners - perhaps Neill will see this and provide the info on the Woodfast we have there - if he doesn't in a few days I'll try my best.

Martin,

The San Diego Woodturners has had a 16" Woodfast shortbed for a number of years. A club member made a nice stand that includes drawers for chucks, accessories and a grinder. It was a self-contained turning center.

For the last 5 years, we have held our meetings at the San Diego Woodturning Centre and we use their big lathes: Vicmarc 300, Stubby

1000 or a Oneway 2436. Since we have not had much use for the big Woodfast, we just sold it and are in the process of buying two or three JET minis for our occasional road shows.

Tennessee Association of Woodturners has a Jet 1642, which replaces a Nova

3000.

Hi Martin, The Lehigh Valley Woodturners has a Nova 3000, which nobody seems to like. We are currently saving for a Oneway. Tony Manella Tres.

The Tudor Rose Woodturners here in the UK use a Vicmarc 100. Everyone loves it but it does restrict you to only being able to turn small items
