Threaded tube - UK source?

Jul 05, 2003 4 Replies

I've turned a table-lamp column to go with a marble base and fancy top. Can't say I like the result, but it's for someone else and they love it.

But I need some externally-threaded 1/4" or 3/8" tubing to fix the whole lot together - there are other methods but this would be the simplest. Brass tubing would be best, but steel would do. I could probably manage with internally-threaded at a pinch.

Does anyone know of a UK source - preferably online or mail order - that might sell hobby quantities? I'd probably be buying more than one piece as I can think of a lot of uses for it.

Try Specialist Lampfitting Supplies,

10 Hatton Lanes, Hatton,Warrington,Cheshire. Tel. 01925 730608 They have a brochure that has all the fittings you should need and aim themselves at craft workers, so small numbers shouldn't be a problem.

Here in rural Scotland, I have only one DIY store within reasonable travelling distance and they don't. Smaller hardware and electrical shops know what I mean "but there's no demand".

Which is why I need an online/mail order supplier.

That looks promising - I'll give them a ring on Monday. Many thanks.

Try any Electrical Wholesaler (Look in Yellow Pages or Thompson) It is usually available of the shelf very cheaply. The standard size is 3/8" UNF this will directly screw into any brass lampholder directly. They may also do a free delivery if they are in your area that day.

Hope this helps
