Too much gloom & doom?

I've been 'accentuating the negative and eeeliminating the positive' here lately. Actually, I'm having a ball with my son's (oh sure) new VS Jet mini. What a great little machine. No wonder so many loyal owners praise it. By taking the banjo and tailstock off, even this 170 lb. weakling can carry it. It's smooth, quiet and has adequate power. The tail spindle is hollow, ejects centers and locks down nicely. Everything performs to specifications. I wish it could be reversed and its speed lowered to zero. Maybe someone will tell me how to make it do that?

In return I'll mention a couple of dodges that helped me the other day. Doubtless not original, but they might help someone sometime. While making small salad bowls held on the Jet with expanding jaws and turned without reversing, the chuck got in the way and made the space between the dovetail and the inside bottom of the bowl hard to measure. I made the dovetails large so the chuck jaws were spread apart enough for a figure 8 'caliper' with one thin straight leg to fit between them and abut the dovetail. I cobbled it from sheet metal and it is ugly, but it kept me from making funnels, To help determine the depth of the inside bottom of a bowl held on a jam chuck, I used a length of 3/8" steel rod inside the head spindle. I filed a small notch to reference the space between the jam chuck and the outboard handwheel. By seating the rod's tip against the bowl bottom while sliding a collar away from the notch, I could figure out where the tip was inside the bowl.

I'm becoming cognitively deprived and I may have gone around Robin Hood's barn instead of taking much easier ways to make these two measurements. If so, ? Arch

Fortiter,

Before somebody beats me to it. I meant lower the speed _TOWARD zero. I know how to lower it to zero. :) A.

Fortiter,

If you post this information expect to be served with a subpoena!! I have spent considerable time creating a 3 step process on how to lower the speed of ALL powered hand/shop tools to zero. I have also just recently created videos of this process and have all 3 videos for sale on my web site for a list price of $19.95 plus $65.00 shipping and handling. If all 3 videos are purchased at the same time a savings of $.89 cents shipping can be realized. Please direct all correspondence to snipped-for-privacy@wegotchato.com .

Dear M.J. Can you supply these videos in the new Beta tape format? My best friend just sold me a video machine, and he swears that Beta is the way to go.

Do the audio tapes come on 8 track?

James Barley wrote: (clip) My best friend just sold me a video machine, (clip) ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Your best friend? See if he will take it back for a refund. I have an 8mm projector I could part with, and probably save you a few bucks. I don't use it any more, 'cause our club club library has all the stuff in some kind of "video(?)" format that won't fit it.

I thought of returning it, but I don't know his address and I can't remember which bar it was I met him in.

Does the right hand wheel go in and out with the spindle, or does it stay in one place? I got used to using a draw rod for my drill chuck on my old lathe, but the new Delta won't allow that.

I'd like get a copy on a 45 record and accompanying film strip. Make sure the beep is good an audible so I know when to advance to the next frame...

Sorry we only carry 78 records and a stereo view-master..........don't like all that new-fangled modern stuff...............

Dang. Mama always said my impetitous side was gonna get me one of these days...

Hi Gerald, My descriptive powers are poor and my words are much too plentiful. I'll try, try again: Pushing the rod to the right thru the head spindle til it touches inside a piece held on a jam chuck will move the loose outboard collar along the rod to the left of the filed reference notch. The distance between the notch and the new position of the collar is the distance from the rim of the piece to the bottom inside the piece. I THIMK!

Someone. I still would like to know how to reverse my VS Jet Mini and if it's possible to lower the slowest speed electricaly.

BTW, I just thought up a new parlor game for cold rainy days. Reading aloud the final post to a rcw thread and have the players guess what the original post was about. :) Arch

Used to do something similar with the inmates at the jail. Everyone would guess what they ate, and the closest to the menu description got to go out back for a smoke.
