Depending on the video format, saying "any computer" will not be true.

There are computers out here that don't run Windows.

Just produce the video. You can always convert it to any kind of media after the fact. That's the easy part (grin).

Hi There: I grew up turning/milling metal switched to wood after I quit working. As you say there is something about the sound of the tool doing ones will. When the speed, feed, and cutter are all right it feel and sounds sooo good! David

Darrell, I'm surprised when you claim to "like the sound of the lathe", considering how many times you've mentioned that you always wear "hearing protection" because your craftsman lathe with it's geartrain is so noisy.

James Actually, I tend to wear hearing protection in the shop not because of the drive on the lathe, since the new headstock does not have that problem, but because I use drills, electric chain saws, other electric saws, dust extractors and so on. What people do not realize is that hearing protection is designed to cut off sound above a certain decibel level, not to deaden all sound. I hear the lathe well when I turn whether I wear the hearing protection or not.

If you go digital, it is very easy to change the format to different types, AVI, Quick time, and so on, etc. Most people are able to get those type of videos working, but only if it will fit on a CD. Some of us still can't part with the old stuff.

You shouldn't belittle the need of hearing protection, I for one grew up following dad around most of the sawmills in Atlantic Canada. I happen to be 35 and if there is the slightest back ground noise I'm deaf as a fence post. You should always wear hearing protection, even if the noise is not overly loud, if you will be in it for any length of time.
