What problem are you having with the vacuum chuck that it won't hold a platter on a sunny day?

Hi Ed,
Between the homemade vacuum chucks described here and the metal Oneway chucks, I am able to turn a large variety of flat faced work.
WARNING!!!
I USE AN AIRSTREAM HELMET/FACESHIELD WHICH PROTECTS ME IF A PRODUCT COMES FLYING OFF OF THE CHUCK - DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT FACE PROTECTION!!! ONEWAY EXPLICITELY WARNED ME NOT TO DRY THIS WITH THEIR CHUCKS AS THE FLAT WORK CAN FLY OFF OF THE LATHE IF YOU HAVE A CATCH.
I have created a line of vacuum chucks explicitly for turning a new product line I have of Ikebana vases. These chucks use a hard rubber o-ring material to seal the vacuum as opposed to foam rubber because the o-ring has enough adhesion that drilling the vase glue up for the pincup does not cause the vase to rotate on the chuck like what happens when you use foam rubber. I use PVC pipe coupling glued to hi-grade birch plywood and then glue the o-ring material to a groove cut into the coupling.
I also found a product I found which is a very inexpensive replacement for the foam interface on Oneway metal vacuum chucks. They are called Foamies and are available at craft stores like Michaels in self adhesive 8x10 sheets for $.50 per sheet or less in a package.

You need to spend more time in the bathroom. Ideas don't just appear, they must be coaxed out.
