Yakima wood sources

I'll be making a short trip to Yakima early next week. Anyone know of wood sources or anything else of interest to a turner/woodworker?

Local firewood piles, looking for Tamarac, Maple, etc.

I really doubt there is anything except conventional lumber yards.

Lotsa apple. No joke...they are tearing out orchards right & left there...can't compete with the imports. And converting the land to developments...and vinards.

There are no "outlets" just a couple of tree trimmers one of which has a bandsaw and sells what he can from his work. Have been waiting for months for some box elder burls to show up so I get my burls, blanks and timbers from Jenson Hardwoods in walla walla and nw wood in s king county and thru trips to mills in central oregon. Chocolats and wine and tourists are the main items of interest right now for merchants.Only two gallery quality turners in Yakima and Sela that belong to the nearest aaw club . I sell a few $k of turnings thru the farmers market twice a month during the summer season. and get referrals from customers and passerbyes and always give them first refusal of the wood when it is done, Enjoy your trip I'm some 40 miles north of Yakima and in shop

Sorry Don. I tried to respond offline, but it's still rejected. It's now looking more and more like I won't be able to get away on this trip, but I'll call the next time I'm in town.

Will I get very few visitors at shop over the year as we are a whole four miles off the freeways that bisect the state and after gas a fast food veryone travels on to their " big city". and since i work nights for a living I'm not avilable in the pm. Those that do stop bye always get a chunk of wood from the stash either domestic or some imported blanks from a old world kitchen top manfc. i have befriended. Its neat when something arrives via ups from someone that has been bye arrives a few weeks later also.Coffe is on from 7am to

1pm when i cut my self off from the caffine.Love to talk shop etc and take a breather and remind my self its a hobby and i will do no work in shop as it states on the sign on the door..
