Att'n: JJMolvik AND all in OR and WA

We are sitting in Starbucks with a scone and coffee. We have not had power since Thursday night and it is below freezing outside (not quite that cold inside as we have a gas fireplace and a regular fireplace). The tree that started dropping branches on us Wednesday night was cut down Thursday with no further damage - no problems other than no power. It is starting to be restored around town now -- as you can see the shopping center power is now on. Of course being without power is inconvenient - but we can cope with that.

While the sun was up yesterday (very short days this time of year) I finished the first sleeve on a baby sweater and started the other while wrapped in the cozy flannel quilt my sister made for my DH.

Never lost power!!!! Just got internet back!!! Have seen LOTS of trees down around the area, but nothing got us!!!! God was watching over us. (Plus we have no big trees around us) Lost some roofing, but nothing we can't fix ourselves. Thanks for the concern.

Thanks folks for your concern. We are still without power but fortunately there is power in other parts of our town. I went out for coffee and oatmeal this am to warm up. We have an active phone line now so I can use dial up with the remaining battery power on my laptop. I will try to take it somewhere to recharge later today.

Yesterday we had a service in our little church without power. I brought a quilt as did some others and someone brought thermoses of coffee. (They had power). We had candles and a piano (only human power needed for that.) As we observed - people managed without electricity for a long time - we can manage for a few days. Actually it was kind of fun as everyone was happy to be together and we sang carols etc. -- Better than sitting some by ourselves.

In fact, now that most of our town has power it really isn't too bad. I was able to get gas in my car and that allows me to get around. (The first few days the gas stations didn't have power for the pumps - which added to the problem. It may still be a day or two for us as a very large tree did a number on two power poles and wires are everywhere. I guess they are having to bring more poles up from Portland or somewhere. Fortunately the main part of the tree managed to miss houses though its upper branches did a little damage to one. Our house suffered only minimal damage from branches from a neighbor's tree - nothing major at all.

I am gathering that temperatures were not dreadfully low. THe last time we lost power for an extended period of time, temps were -80. Yes, that's right MINUS 80. It was a bit chilly. We were one of the families with power, and we had three families staying with us. Glad to hear that you are managing. How are you posting? Laptop?

We got our power back tonight - after five long days. Whew -- it is nice to hear everything humming and to feel the house warming back up. Luckily the temps weren't anything like what Katherine endured. We survived ok but it is nice to have all the modern conveniences back. Now to take a hot shower and wash my hair!!

I will have to hustle to get ready for my boys and new DIL who are coming for Christmas
