OK, I may be really stupid, but I am having serious problems trying to figure out the whole thing that is happening in your part of the world. I did a search for maps of Palestine and Israel. I found Israel with no difficulty, but there is really no such place as "Palestine". So what gives? How is it that there are people called "Palestinians"? Please explain this to me, in as simple terms as you can.

Have a look here it has lots of information

Yes, SHeila, I have looked at those sites before, but isn't Israel in the same place geographically? I understand that they are fighting over land, but if I wanted to send a letter, would I send it to Israel or Palestine?

Katherine, The land of Israel belongs to the Israeli's/Jews, it is their birthright, land given to them by God. The "Palestinians" are of Arab descent, and have no right to the land. JM2C, Noreen

Thanks, Noreen. That is pretty much what I thought.

Katherine i will slowly answer you , just now i am not exactly in the right mood , i try to live as normal as possible , we cleaned the shelter , a million Israelies will sleep tonight in shelters , because a Terrorist lead by Iran wanted to escalate fights ,,,, Also i don`t think political debates are good to be conducted here ,,,

Amongst the poeple by the missiles today were Jewish as well as Arab people . mirjam

I heartily agree Mirjam. Be well, you're in my thoughts.

Thanks, Mirjam. I appreciate your replying. I wasn't trying to start a debate, just to get some clarification. Now, thanks to some off-list mails, and some googling, I have a bit of an understanding.

Dear Mirjam, I pray that you and all residents of Haifa survive the attacks and that tomorrow will be a better day.

ANd that's fine. I was looking for facts, and now I have some.

LOL It is us, Els. I had a question which I really should have asked off-list, but posted it here. I have had some interesting e-mails, and think that I have actually learned something.

Dear Katherine i have never thought you meant any debate , as a matter of fact i don`t think our life , and our right to have a normal quiet life should be a matter of debate. But Alas too many people think that they have the right to judge us , tell us how we should live our life. Think they know everything better than we do from our history to the daily things that happen here. One thing i enjoy doing in Europe , listening to news and debates in the varuious languages i know [ Dutch , English, German ] in stations i can`t hear/see here. It is amazing , how many people say things that aren`t true or real, and it is accepted as truth. For example i sat in the Kraainem Metro station waiting for the bus, and a girl next to me was reading some newspapers cuts, slandering Israel, with a big red letters in ink marking it as Zionism. I started talking with her and asked her "what it means?' . Got an answer that was tottaly Historicaly wrong. I than told her i was Israeli and explained her where it was wrong ,,,, She learns in a very Big organization `s school system [ i am not teling here which , as i doin`t want a debate just an example]. Now this means that this organization is inciting against us for sure. mirjam

Thank you, Mirjam.
