[AD] My very first e-bay posting

With many thanks to KatieLiz11, I finally got my fist posting submitted to e-Bay.

I still have to figure out the whole snurl thing but here is the posting URL. Let me know if you have any problems finding it and I'll send you a picture.

I have no idea what search criteria I might be found under (it sucks being a newbie) but the listing is titled:

PLT-Boro Lampwork-AsPrettyontheInside-4WC

and the URL is

am thrilled to be offering this particular bead as my firstforay onto e-Bay. It is truly stunning. Despite the rathercorny description of it, it really does have an amazinglybeautiful pearlescent appearance. Heck, it's even prettierthan a pearl. I just about fell over when it first came out ofthe kiln.

Thank you to any who go take a look at it. I would really love to know what people thing of my listing and whatever else they feel like sharing.

Oh yea, and the PLT is for my studio name, "Precious Little Things" and website:

sandy -- I love it, and was getting ready to bid and not be critical at all, and then I checked the postage rate. I do not want to pay $4 to ship one bead. Are there any other options?

critical at all,

to ship one bead.

I definitely do not want to make money on shipping and am happy to charge only what I pay in shipping. I am including insurance with the price of shipping and secure packaging.

Perhaps someone else who ships from Canada can chime in on this and let me know if what I am currently proposing is reasonable.

I know that letter rate postage from Canada to the US is 65 cents without any sort of insurance. I figured with a bubble pack or secure box with padding and then insurance I'd be in that ballpark but I am happy to determine the cost for sure and modify things accordingly either for the buyer of this item and certainly for all future buyers.

Is that reasonable? Do you think people would prefer the shipping cost be factored into the selling price and then offer free shipping?

Very nice bead, but I have one suggestion. You might want to consider changing the text from orange to something a little less harsh on the eyes when it is on a white background. The orange text on a white background makes my eyes do funny stuff., but thats just my 2 cents.

Again the bead is very nice. Very different. It looks kind of like water in a coppery kind of pot with oil swirling around on the surface of the water.

I can only speak for me, but for me it is a resounding OH YEAH!!!! $4 for shipping makes me not want to bid. I'm not claiming you are overcharging; I know there are lots and lots of others who charge that same amount. I just don't want to pay it, LOL. Ever. Not for one bead. Ever.

Very nice bead! You might want to consider taking a couple more pics with different angles so we can see more of the bead. As for shipping, it only costs me about $1 to ship beads to Canada from the U.S., but that does not include insurance. If I were you, I would offer free shipping and then let the customer choose whether they want insurance. Just my opinion, though. :)

postal service has all the info you need to determine the best way tosend a letter or parcel to the US. You'd better check about insurance, though. I can't insure orders going to Canada unless I send them ExpressMail, which costs more than you want to know! I did see something aboutdelivery confirmation for an 'expedited parcel' - that might be the way togo.

Good luck! And GORGEOUS bead too!!

I charge $2.00 US - I get a huge box of bubble envelopes (size 00 if that means anything in Canada), then wrap each bead in bubble wrap (some bought, some recycled) and then the postage is usually less than a dollar US. I figure it covers exactly what I need. Honestly, with the market the way it is, I can't afford free shipping, when a bead that I sold in '95 for $35 is now going for 9.99 :-( I do have to charge SOMETHING for the shipping unless I raise my minimum bids and risk not selling at all.

Good luck with the auction - the bead is gorgeous!

does your listing fee increase if you include the shipping fee in the opening price? if not, it's probably worth it.

Marissa,

Thank you and I totally agree with you. I posted the HTML for my table with that text colour and it ended up taking over the whole posting. I am trying to change it but I have a sinking feeling I might be stuck with it.

I definitely am working to change it though.

Fair enough, Kandice, and you have certainly done this WAY more times than I have.

I'll be making many of the suggested changes but I think I am stuck "as is" with this plan for the moment because I don't think I have the option to change things with e-Bay now that there's a bid. I'll take everything posted here under advisement though and will definitely do something different about shipping.

Thanks!
