What yarn did you use that has lycra in it? I haven't seen it here.
My DH firmly believes that my crocheted socks are much better than the knit socks from his GM. Not as stretchy, but thicker and more comfortable. I also use a chunky wool blend (Shetland Chunky) while his GM uses worsted acrylic, so that explains some of the comfort (from the crochet chunky stuff) and they feel better as the wool is more breathable than pure acrylic. I made his socks planning to share as slippers for me, but he wears them all the time. Even in the summer. Strange man, that. Michelle

I used the Jeans colourway, and very pretty it is too. I was aiming for the "socks you can wear inside shoes" effect, and although they are OK for that they're not quite as comfy as knitted socks. I usually use 4 ply sock yarn for knitting socks. I can see that worsted weight or chunky would make lovely soft and comfy socks, but they wouldn't fit inside my shoes, and it rarely gets cold enough here to wear big boots, although they are promising us an extra cold winter this year. Better find my moon boots, last worn several years ago. Perhaps I'd better make myself some comfy thick socks too!!Love Christine

learn to crochet socks book. It has the gussett heel a littledifferent from mine and calls for sport weight , but I just increasedthe # of stitches and decreased the size of the hook for those.Coggie

Yes, the self-patterning ones are wonderful. But I like solids for showing off textrued patterns. I definitely prefer DPNs!
