Elizabeth's/Meg's form-fitted arch

Has anyone successfully knitted the form-fitted arch stocking from Knitting with Meg? A friend has made several false starts, so I'm about to embark on it myself. My friend believes the first shaping round should read "knit to 5 before marker" instead of 6. I'm inclined to agree, since subsequent rounds increment by two to odd numbers (7,9,11, adnaus).

I knitted a quick sample yesterday using worsted-weight wool and it just looks wrong as written.

Yeah, I've gone back and forth with Meg on other things, most recently the Russian Prime sweater from the same book (I was swatching before my accident, picked it up again a few days ago).

Hi Els. There's a book by Meg, "Knitting with Meg Swanson", in which the patterns I've mentioned are located. I'll keep my eye out for a copy at the used book store and send it along if I find one. On the website

you may be able to find photos of the Russian Prime sweater and the form-fitting arch stockings. The sweater is called "Russian Prime" because it is a two-color pattern that works up in 1-3-5 type sequence: ABABBBABBBAAABAB or something along those lines. The finished sweater is very striking, and the construction is very sensible. The yoke uses a different color pattern than the body, and I really like the sleeve shaping. My jury is still out on the fitted arch, but I do believe I solved the problem, which may be a typo but is more probably a pattern problem based on my experiments and on the huge difference in appearance between the "I followed the instructions" sample and the "I think I ought to be doing this instead" sample. The former just looks wrong - sloppy and uneven and generally nasty. The latter more closely resembles the illistration.

Ok, I'm off to bed, I was up before the chickens today and I'm po>Slinky and Janice What arch ? what Russian sweater ???

I'm slowly getting around to trying that pattern. You never did post what changes you made to make the stockings match the picture. Could I get some tips before I start?
