When I first started to knit all those many years ago, I learned from a book and everything I've learned since has been accomplished the same way. That first book only showed the English method and that's what I have always done. Over the years, I've made feeble attempts at continental knitting but never succeeded. When I saw a continental knitting class on the LYS class schedule, I decided it was time to finally break away from my self taught mode. This morning I went to the first of 3 sessions and left feeling very pleased. I can now both knit and purl, albeit clumsily, with the yarn in my left hand. I was surprised to discover that doing the pick purl was easier for me than the pick knit. I was clearly the senior member of the group of
9 students. We were asked to each say a bit about ourselves including how long we have been knitting. I told them I don't remember exactly when I started but it was about 60 years ago and long before most of them were born. The teacher, who has been knitting for just 4 years, was very good. I was impressed with her energy and vivacity considering she has a 2 year old child and just a month away from delivering her second. It was a fun morning and I'm looking forward to next Saturday.- posted
