Happy whatever

I really wanted to send out some sort of holiday greeting but it is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on his advice I want to say to all of you:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Scotland great (not to imply that Scotland is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "Scotland" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Modest wishes to you all, Ms. Anonymous (I wish not to offend anyone by disclosing the ethnicity and history of my name.)

P.S. Next time, I will send my greetings on slate so the environmentalists are not offended. HAPPY WHATEVER!!!

Hi Katherine Well after digesting that lot and eventually getting to the end of it I must return to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, that goes to everyone on here, regardless of whether they believe in it or not, if others take offence at my well wishes, then that is their problem and not mine, lol.

However I will accept any good wishes in whatever format others choose to send it to me in,

I do not look at others as creed religion or colour only as earthlings, and equals, and we are all the same in this, we all come here the same naked and with nothing we leave this earth with no earthly goods, but hopefully with some earthly knowledge which has during our stay here not only enlightened us but others around us.

I have my own weird and wonderful sayings one of them being, There is NOBODY on this earth better than me, and I am no better than anyone else.

that said Have a great Christmas and a happy new year

And may you God go with you whoever he or she is.

My sister sent that one to me, and I thought it was too good *not* to share.

There was an acrimonious thread in another place I visit, too, so I chose

*not* to post it there. Well, actually, I spoke with the moderator, and she asked me to save it until next year, as she thought it would upset too many people in the group.

Hi Katherine,

Merry Christmas to you too. What a good laugh that gave me. There is so much discussion of the proper saying this year that as Donna said you don't know what to say so I'm sticking by the way I was brought up and wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Hugs,

Nora

The only problem Katherine, is (as my daughter pointed out to me) the word "holiday" is derived from "holy day" so you are implying a religious vacation. However, I will continue to wish people a happy holiday.

Yes, I realize that Roger, but I can't think of a PC substitute. "Festive" derives from "feast", which implies a saint's day as well. It is so difficult not offending people.

mmmmmnnnn offended??? how can anyone get offended by you saying happy Christmas or whatever, this never fails to amuse me, people only get offended if they '''want'''' to.

Exactly. Sometimes, being politically correct is beyond idiotic. Chairman to chairperson. (snicker). Manhole cover to personhole - (double snicker). I rest my case.

BTW, I hope you had a Merry Christmas.
